Yahoo Sports’ Matt Harmon and Scott Pianovsky team up to recap the preseason week one and offer takeaways and bigger surprises before diving into quarterback draft strategy and how to tackle quarterbacks in the Superflex league.
2:00 — Preseason Week 1 headlines: Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor will return to practice soon according to coach Shane Steichen, but Matt and Scott aren’t convinced their contract dispute will be resolved anytime soon. Meanwhile, Arizona Cardinals Tee Zach Ertz has been released for Week 1, but he probably isn’t a player you should be targeting in your drafts.
10:10 – Matt and Scott provided takeaways from several players’ playing time in the preseason, including Tank Bigsby, Greg Dolch, Khalil Herbert, Alexander Matteson and Kenneth Ginwell.
29:55 – The quarterback position is evolving. Top quarterbacks have more value than they did in previous years, so how should you best handle the decision of whether or not to draft one early? Both hosts discuss their process for finding the next quarterback who can cut into that group of elite QBs. Players like Justin Herbert and Justin Fields have a chance to join the group, or you can wait until later in the draft and chase the cap on players like Anthony Richardson or Geno Smith.
54:50 – Superflex has emerged as an improvement in quarterbacks, and Matt and Scott give their perfect Superflex league drafting strategy. Scott thinks it’s best to take three starting QBs: at least two of them are solid starters, and one is a roof sleeper. Scott points to Mack Jones, Brooke Purdy, and Kenny Pickett as good sleep choices.
