Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, in the midst of their stellar run in the League Cup, were back in action on Tuesday night.
Miami will play Philadelphia Union in Pennsylvania on Tuesday in the League Cup semi-finals. The winner of that match will advance to the finals, where either CF Monterrey or Nashville will await them. If Miami makes it to the championship, it will be the club’s first final in any competition.
Totally dominating since arriving in South Florida, Messi quickly turned Mimi into the favorite to win the League Cup on BetMGM despite their last-place finish in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference. Miami has won five straight games – equaling their MLS win total – and Messi has scored eight goals already. He scored once in Miami’s 4-0 win over Charlotte in the quarterfinals on Friday. As a club, Miami has scored 17 goals in the League Cup.
Tuesday’s match is Messi’s second trip with the club. Al-Ittihad has only lost one home game at Subaru Park in the past two seasons. Al Ittihad beat Queretaro 2-0 in Friday’s quarter-final match, which came after winning back-to-back penalties.
The Inter Miami-Philadelphia Union game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. The other semifinal match will begin at 9:30 PM EST in Nashville.
